A brief history
"Wirragulla" the property where polo was originally played in Dungog, back in 1923. And the ground was prepared using a single furrow mole board plough, drawn by a team of eight bullocks.

The original clubhouse still stands. Built in 1926 when the current location was used for the
home field.

With a rich family history of Mackays (now 4th generation & their ground has been used since 1926), Hookes & Alisons - who's ancestors were at the original 1923 meeting. The name "Wirragulla" is cemented in polo history. Many major triumphs,  over tough competitors over the years only add to the proud history of this country polo club.
"to no country in the world is it [polo] more adapted than to Australia, and that no people in the world are more adapted than  Australians to play it well." Town and Country Journal, Aug 15, 1874.
